Pureed Green Beans: Poor Babies!

Well...Easton had his six month well check today. (Holy cow! It seems like I was just in that office with a three day old getting his heel pricked to check for jaundice!) He now weighs 19.3 lbs. Go Easton! The doc was surprised he was only in the 75th percentile for his weight, as you can totally see he is quite the little chunker. Don't worry. His head circumference is still in the 95th. Anyway, she suggested we start on veggies soon because he has had fruit and cereal for awhile and he might soon only favor that sweet taste. So I got some to take home and try out. Thought we'd try green beans. She said most babies like those more than peas. Mind you, I wasn't too worried. Look at my child. He likes food. He hasn't had any issues at all eating what solids I've given him...doesn't spit anything back out. Well. Not so with the green beans. The first tiny bite he made a face and swallowed. Second bite apparently he had a plan. Those green beans went straight to the roof of his mouth, mouth wide open. No tasting the green beans. It was so funny. He just sat there with his mouth open...not swallowing or moving his tongue. Every now and then he would let out a gaggy sigh like, "Mom...seriously...wipe this off of the roof of my mouth." Smart kid. Sadly, he eventually had to swallow and what followed was our first real vomiting experience. Very different from spitting up. I felt so bad. The whole thing was caught on tape and I was going to post it but I figured the ralphing might not be so pleasant to watch at the end. I've searched the internet for tips on getting babies to eat veggies, but I only get instructions to MAKE baby food. Come on. Lets get real. Some days with out a microwave my family would starve. Any advice? I tasted them and...wow. I really can't blame the kid.
I'm such a mean mom. I make him get shots and barf in one day. I'm pretty close to getting that mother of the year award. :)

Hooray! Guess what came today?!

I don't think I've ever been more grateful for an appliance, especially one that facilitates laundry. Not exactly my favorite chore. Not having to load up my clothes and such to take elsewhere to launder is going to be HEAVEN. However, I no longer have an excuse for the mountain of dirty clothes in my bedroom...

Weight Loss Update...FINALLY!

Emily asked me the the other day why I hadn't posted anything about weight watchers lately. I guess I wanted to have something significant to report. To say the least, the process has been very SLOW for me. A pound here, two there, .5 gained then lost again and so forth. But today... drumroll... I met and exceeded my first goal! I have now lost 18.2 lbs since I started weight watchers. I'm pretty happy and really like the program. However...its kinda depressing thinking back to when I thought "17 pounds? Wow, when I lose that I'll be lookin pretty good!". Now that I'm here I realize I still have a way to go. I'm trying to incorporate a little good ol' exercise to tone everything up a bit. I feel like the more I lose the harder it is to get it to come off. I guess its time to really buckle down. Gotta do it Jillian style. Wish me luck.

Summer is in the Air...

I love this time of year, when the sound of a baseball game is on the TV, the windows are open letting the fresh air in and the smell of the barbeque. However, another smell marks this time of year that I'm not so fond of. I know its getting warmer when the Keens make their appearance. Randon has a granola side to him, I mean, he drives a Subaru Outback, he loves to rock climb, and would spend all his money at REI if he could. Apparently these shoes are all the rage (I thought it would be funny to get Easton some tiny ones, but they were $50! Ack! Maybe I'm just a cheapo...) anyway, they are supposed to be so great which I'm sure they are...but...they make Randon's feet stink!!! EW! I have a thing with feet as it is, they kinda gross me out. Luckily he is good enough to wash his feet at the end of the day. Summer must be getting closer. (Randon if you read this (I think that chance is slim, which reminds me, I'm curious, do your husbands read YOUR blogs?) I love you SO much, even though sometimes you wear weird shoes that make your feet smell.)

Bad Momma

I should never have let Easton taste my Diet Coke. He is now a pro at spotting that silver can. He grabs for it until I let him sip the gutter. Most of the time he doesn't even get any he just sits there and listens to the sound his breathing makes in the can. He loves it. Great. But as my mom says, Diet Coke makes everything better! :) As you can see she also thinks a powdered donut every now and then doesn't hurt! Easton loves his Grandma Rass! And don't worry, I promise he truly does have a healthy diet. I mean look at the kid...does it look like he refuses any food?

A Salute to Mothers of More Than ONE Child

Since this past Sunday night, we having been staying at my parents' friends house with their four kids while they are in Mexico. Wow, sometimes keeping track of that many is tough, and the thing is, they are great kids. I've spent the most time with Mallory, their almost three year old. I figured when we had another child Easton might be around her age. Sometimes its been a little crazy when they both need attention! Lets just say getting us all bathed, dressed and ready has been quite an accomplishment each day! So anyway...to all you mothers out there who balance it all so beautifully...here's to you!!

Our Fabulous Trip to Green River

Green River aka paradise. Hahaha. If you've been there you'll know why that's funny. My family decided to take a little camping trip over the weekend and we decided to join them. I guess it was a fun way to celebrate Randon's birthday. He is a true country boy and uses any excuse to get out of the city. It was our first little trip with Easton and I was a little nervous to see how he would do in the car and at night and such. He was a little champ. He did very well in the car considering how much we were in it and slept so-so. Anyway, we rolled into Green River and Randon said it reminded him of the town in "Cars", in the middle of the desert and all run down.  Here you can see our campground we often referred to as paradise...beeeautiful.
The first day we were there, we drove out to Goblin Valley, another long drive. Mind you, I think I was sick with something because I got carsick every time we got in the car, so that was pretty fun. Goblin Valley was pretty cool. I think Easton loved being outside walking around. Since he has been born there hasn't been much warm weather, so he hasn't had much outside fun, so this was great.

Here we have Easton having fun exploring with dad.

And of course here is the rock Randon lovingly named Flabby Bum Rock.

I stayed back with Easton for the next hike which was through a slot canyon.  A good thing I guess...I probably would have had a heart attack if I saw Randon doing this... apparently this was pretty high. Freestyle climbing like this is safe he tells me. Right.

The next day we headed out again, this time to Capitol Reef. Sweet. Another long drive. This was pretty cool, we saw the orchards in the little establishment of Fruita. There was this little old home where Easton had his first experience with a horse. I can't wait for Randon to teach Easton all about horses...hopefully Bob, his horse, can hold out for a few years. :)
We went on a fun hike down a canyon and saw some petroglyphs the Fremont Indians had carved on the stone. There was also a Pioneer registry where those who passed through would carve their name and date in the rock. Pretty cool. Thats what the pic below is...
All in all it was a fun little getaway. Sorry for the long post! It made us excited for summer with the little sunshine we got!

Happy Birthday Randon!!

Yesterday was Randon's birthday and we celebrated by driving home from Green River! Woo hoo, what a party! Anyway, this is how Randon would choose to do his hair every day, that is, NOT do it. He said since it was his birthday he wasn't going to do it. Hey, we were camping, why not have him look like a crazy person? And so my love looked so handsome for his birthday. The big 2-8! We are so lucky to have such an awesome daddy/husband. We love you!
